# Relative humidity (RH)

Relative humidity is the share of moisture the air holds compared with the most it could hold at that temperature. EPA says keeping indoor humidity below 60%, ideally 30% to 50%, helps limit mold.

## Why it matters in a South Florida home

Agency guidance points to the same range. EPA says to keep indoor humidity below 60% relative humidity, ideally between 30% and 50%, and notes that a moisture or humidity meter costs about $10 to $50.

Florida DOH says to keep humidity below 60%, with below 50% best because it also controls dust mites.

## Agency targets

### EPA

Below 60% relative humidity, ideally between 30% and 50%.

### Florida DOH

Below 60%, with below 50% best because it also controls dust mites.

### Measuring it

A moisture or humidity meter costs about $10 to $50.
